Overview
Alt ("we", "us", "our") is a creator analytics tool that connects to your Instagram account through the official Meta API. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can control it.
Data We Collect
When you use Alt, we collect and process the following:
- Account information — your name, email address, and profile image provided during sign-up.
- Instagram data via the Meta API — your Instagram username, profile information, reels, media metadata, and engagement metrics (reach, plays, likes, comments, shares, saves). This data is accessed through Meta's official Instagram Graph API with your explicit authorization.
- Workspace content — target audience definitions, business context, and notes you create within your Alt workspace.
- Session & authentication data — session tokens and OAuth credentials required to keep you signed in and to maintain your Instagram connection.
We do not collect private messages, follower lists, or any data from accounts you do not own.
How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Display your reel performance metrics, transcripts, and analytics in your dashboard.
- Structure your creator context so it can be exported to AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT.
- Surface content inspiration from public accounts you choose to follow.
- Authenticate your identity and maintain your session.
- Improve and maintain the Alt service.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not share your content or metrics with other Alt users.
Meta Platform Data Use
Alt accesses Instagram data exclusively through Meta's official API and complies with Meta's Platform Terms and Developer Policies, including Section 3 on data use. Specifically:
- We only request the permissions necessary for the features you use.
- Instagram data is stored in your private workspace and is never exposed to other users.
- We do not transfer Instagram data to third parties except as necessary to provide the service (e.g. infrastructure providers).
- We delete all Instagram data associated with your account when you request data deletion.
Data Storage & Transfer
Your data is stored on servers in the United States. If you are accessing Alt from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication flows, and access controls on our infrastructure.
Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your data at any time. When you delete your account:
- All Instagram data synced to your workspace is permanently deleted.
- Your account information, workspace content, and session data are removed.
- API keys and OAuth tokens associated with your account are revoked and deleted.
To request data deletion, email us at the address below. We will process your request within 30 days.
You can also disconnect your Instagram account at any time from your dashboard without deleting your Alt account.
Data Retention
We retain your data only for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days. We may retain anonymized, aggregate data that cannot be linked back to you for service improvement purposes.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured format.

EU/EEA residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (when you connect your Instagram account) and legitimate interest (to provide and improve the service).
Children's Privacy
Alt is not directed at anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
